Tax Return Preparation in Sugar Land, TX
A return is a record of decisions that were already made. The preparation is the easy half; the year before it is where the outcome is decided.

What we do
We prepare individual and business returns: 1040s, S corporation and partnership returns, Schedule C, and multi-state filings for people who earn across more than one.
Where we also do your bookkeeping, the return is built from records we have been reconciling all year, which removes most of the back and forth in March. Where we do not, the first job is making the numbers hold together before anything gets filed.
The part most people find unfamiliar is that we would rather talk to you in the autumn than in April. By the time a return is being prepared, the arithmetic is fixed. Everything that could have changed it happened months earlier.
What tax preparation includes
The full scope, in plain terms. Ask about any one of these on its own or all of them together.
Individual returns
Form 1040 and its schedules, including the situations that make a return awkward: multiple income sources, rental property, investment activity, a year with a large one-off event.
Business returns
S corporations, partnerships and sole proprietors. The business return and the owner's personal return get prepared together, because one feeds the other.
Multi-state filings
Texas has no personal income tax, which makes a multi-state situation easier to get wrong: income earned elsewhere still has to be reported where it was earned.
Quarterly estimated payments
Set against what the year is genuinely doing rather than what last year did, and revised mid-year when the picture changes.
Texas franchise tax
The state filing most Texas business owners either forget or assume does not apply to them. We track it with the rest.
Prior year and amended returns
Returns that were filed wrong, or not at all. Often paired with the resolution work, and often the piece that unlocks it.
How it works
You send your documents over, we prepare, and then we go through the return with you before anything is signed. That review is the point: a return you do not understand is a return you cannot check.
If something in the numbers looks wrong to us, you hear about it then rather than after filing. If a decision made during the year cost you something, you hear that too, because the same decision is usually available again next year.
After filing we set the estimated payment schedule for the year ahead, so the next April is a confirmation rather than a surprise.

Tax Preparation FAQs
Can you prepare both my business and personal return?
Yes, and for most owners that is the point. The two are connected, and preparing them separately is how a decision that looks fine on one side turns out to be expensive on the other.
I used software last year and it seemed fine. Why change?
For a straightforward return it may well be fine, and we will say so. It stops being fine when there is an entity involved, income in more than one state, or a year that looks different to the last one.
When should we start?
Earlier than you think, and ideally not in filing season. The work in the autumn is where the outcome is actually decided.
